Mexico Chiapas - Fair Trade Organic has arrived - Order Today!Every once in while, we find ourselves with an exceptional lot of coffee, available only in very small quantities. Mexico Chiapas - Fair Trade Organic is just such a lot.
Grown in the Mexican State of Chiapas in the southern edge of Mexico, close to the Guatemalan border. This coffee is bright, sweet, and has some resemblance to the Huehuetenango coffees of Guatemala. This lot comes from the area affected by the hurricane last year. We actually paid a lot more than Fair Trade to help the farmers that were directly affected with the hurricane.
This coffee is a shade grown (SG), Fair Trade (FT), Organic (O) coffee.
Fair Trade is a viable solution to this crisis, assuring consumers that the coffee we drink was purchased under fair conditions. To become Fair Trade certified, an importer must meet stringent international criteria; paying a minimum price per pound of $1.26, providing much needed credit to farmers, and providing technical assistance such as help transitioning to organic farming. Fair Trade for coffee farmers means community development, health, education, and environmental stewardship.
