Total score from our cupping lab: 91.7

Assessment: The cup starts with some spice, followed by
some cinnamon, and light apricot fruitiness, at the end a bit of spices.
Great winey flavor and dried apricot fruit character with sweet tobacco
      hints.

Mocha is famous for being the major marketplace for coffee from the
15th century until the 17th century. Even after other sources of coffee
were found, Mocha (also called Sanani (meaning from Sana'a) or Mocha Sanani)
beans continued to be prized for their strong, chocolate flavor—and
remain so even today. From this coffee the English language gained the
word mocha. A Sana'a coffee is ifferent every time you buy it, since the
Yemen system involves families selling to local collectors, selling to
Sana collectors, then selling to exporters.

         Harvest Season: October - February
Process: Washed Process
Crop: March Arrival

Wet Fragrance (1-5): 3.6

Acidity (1-10): 8.0

Flavor (1-10): 8.2

Aftertaste (1-10): 8.1

Correction (1-10):

Standard: +50

Total score from our cupping lab: 88.7

Assessment: A roundness swirling with slight wine and fruit
flavors. Heavy body of a rich liqueur

Harvested at the base of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro,
near the Kenyan border, Tanzanian Peaberry has less acidity than most
East African coffees. The fertile volcanic soil is ideal for superior
beans and the result is a coffee that possesses a roundness swirling with
slight wine and fruit flavors. This gourmet African coffee displays many
of the characteristics of Kenyan coffee, though much lighter in acidity
        and fuller body.

LA MINITA COSTA RICA EL CONQUISTADOR COFFEE

A unique coffee with a deep, fruity, sweet dark chocolate flavor, great after taste, very smooth cup overall unlike other Costa Rican coffees.

This coffee comes from the valley of Santa Maria Dota in the Tarrazu region. For many years, this coffee has gone mostly to a single roaster in Germany. The beans are fairly small, and produce a coffee of exceptional density and heavy body.

EL SALVADOR CUP OF EXCELLENCE COFFEE

Cup Of Excellence lot #14 Luis Alonso Araujo - Los Alpes

12 oz WHOLE BEAN BAG ONLY

Finca Los Alpes represents the journey of a family. First established in the 1890's, Luis Alonso's great grandfather expanded the farm in the 1930’s. Like the mountains after which it was named, Los Alpes is rich in natural resources and historical significance. The farm is located on land that was once settled by the Lenca tribe and natural springs can be found throughout the luscious mountains on which the farm is perched.

Los Alpes is the first Cup of Excellence winner from the Cacahuatique mountain range located in the northeast of El Salvador. This win demonstrates that other, lesser-known regions also produce excellent coffee, a fact that makes owner Luis Alonso extremely proud.

The winning lot of coffee has its own story. In 1992, the family decided to plant Pacamara in a 28 hectare section lovingly known as "Tierra Fertil" (Fertile Land). With this decision, Los Alpes became one of the first farms in the Northeast to commit itself to the cultivation of Pacamara. 2007 marks the second year that Los Alpes has participated in the Cup of Excellence, having already made it to the international jury stage of the competition. Winning this year has demonstrated that perseverance and hard work pay off.

The winning sample was taken from a 1.4 hectare area with 60 workers participating in the harvest. Workers only select the most mature cherries and were paid extra for their hard work and attention to detail in this phase of production.

Since its first time participating in the Cup of Excellence the farm has increased its production and has been able to sell its goods at fairer prices. After winning this year the family hopes to be able to use the anticipated profits to reinvest in the land and to generate more opportunities for work for people in the surrounding areas. Luis Alonso or “Lucho” feels a strong social obligation to his workers; he provides them with health care and medicine.

Luis Alonso is convinced that winning the Cup of Excellence will open the door to important opportunities. He hopes that people will recognize him as a producer of high quality coffee and he aspires to work toward attaining a better product to be able to place higher in future events.

ETHIOPIAN YIRGACHEFFE NATURAL ORGANIC COFFEE

12 OZ BAG
This coffee is for those who love traditional "Mocha" type coffee flavor (chocolate and fruit) coffees from Yemen or Harar. You will be amazed with the Idido. It delivers those wild and juicy berry flavors in a cleaner coffee. This coffee is perfect for dessert or for the holiday season, this is a coffee that will make fall in love with something new!

Location: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe
Varietal: traditional
Altitude: 1850-2100 meters
Harvest Season: October - January
Crop: 06-07

Dry Fragrance (1-5): 4.0

Wet Fragrance (1-5): 4.5

Acidity (1-10): 8.7

Body (1-10): 3.5

Flavor (1-10): 9.5

Aftertaste (1-10): 9.2

Correction (1-10): +3 (waoh)

Standard: +50

Total score from our cupping lab: 92.4

Assessment: A coffee for those who love fruit and zesty fills your palate with flavors of mango fruit, wild berry, and grape skin notes in the background. An especially full and syrupy body provides a great playground for all of the flavors, and adds to the coffee's distinct dessert-like character. Think of a dessert wine at a fine restaurant.

Idido Misty Valley, one of the world′s most unusual coffees, named after the town Idido. Ethiopian Coffee from the Gedio Zone of Yirgacheffe.

This is the cleanest African natural coffee you will find it is very uniform and free of the undesirable earth notes or sourness that can put a damper on some otherwise nice unwashed coffees.

The tradition in Yirgacheffe is wet-processing, whereas Harar has a dry-processing tradition. This coffee is screen dried under the sun.

This coffee is Organic (O) coffee.

Panama Geisha (Gesha) is by far the best coffee ever produced. It has taking the highest records ever in coffee auction history.

Geisha (Gesha) has Ethiopian heritage, it was first brought to Panama from Costa Rica in 1963 by our family friend Don Pachi (Pachi Serracin). Panama is the only country in the world that produces Geisha (Gesha) Coffee and quantities are very limited.

About 2 years ago Daniel Peterson re-discovered the coffee within his farm.

Panama is the only country in the world that produces Geisha (Gesha) Coffee and quantities are very limited.

There are only two farms that produce Panama Geisha "Esmeralda Special"and "Don Pachi Estate"
Esmeralda Special has won several competitions:

Panama Geisha (Gesha) is by far the best coffee ever produced. It has taking the highest records ever in coffee auction history.
This coffee has an extraordinary character, jasmine-like aroma, unbelievable acidity; it has citrus and honey flavor and light body anything else that you could imagine in a coffee. This coffee is unlike any other.

Biscotti (plural of Italian biscotto) are crisp Italian cookies traditionally flavored with anise. Traditionally, biscotti are made by baking cookie dough in two long slabs, cutting them into half inch thick pieces, and reheating them to dry them out. A basic recipe is a mix two parts flour for one part sugar with enough eggs to create a batter. To the mixture baking powder and flavourings such as anise, chocolate, or nuts are added. The slabs are baked once for some twenty five minutes. They are then cut up into individual cookies and cooked a second time for a shorter period of time. The longer the second period, the harder the cookies. Originally the cookies were twice-baked so they could be stored for long periods of time.

Eggnog coffee is made with a flavoring that resembles the wonderful taste off eggnog which typically consists of milk, eggs, and sugar mixed together and may be served with or without added spirits. Other ingredients include spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, or allspice, and frequently the substitution of cream for some portion of the milk, making a much richer drink. Other toppings are vanilla ice cream, eggnog flavored ice cream, and whipped cream.

KOTOWA ESTATE COFFEE (PANAMA)

12 oz BAG ONLY

This coffee is grown in the highlands of Boquete at 4500 feet, in a mountainous area famous for it's year round climate.

The combination of rich, deep soils, climate and altitude develops a coffee with good body, rich chocolate aroma and sweet acidity. The cherries are hand picked by Ngobe Indians, who harvest the same trees up to five times per season to guarantee that only the ripe beans are selected.

The harvested cherries of Kotowa Estate are pulped and processed daily to develop a very uniform coffee.
